Investigate and explore a variety of living things in their natural habitat. Students will gain the awareness of how plants and animals depend on their environment in our extensive forest. Hands-on activities will help them compare the basic needs of humans with those of other living things.
Grade 2: Animal Quest
Growth and Changes in Animals
(All Seasons)
Learn hands-on, the conditions necessary for animals to survive and stay healthy. Hike through the forest investigating ways animals eat, sleep, move and survive. Learn to identify ways in which animals adapt to their environment.
Grade 3: Plant Power
Growth and Changes in Plants
(Fall and Spring)
Observe and investigate a wide variety of local plants in their natural environment. Learn the importance of plants as food and shelter for both humans and animals. Collect and classify plants found in our forest.
Grade 4: Homes Sweet Homes
Habitats and Communities
(All Seasons)
Hike through the forest, meadows and rivers edge to find evidence of organisms that live there. Role play and gain understanding of food chains and the challenges all animals face in the forest in order to survive. Experience first hand predator-prey relationships, camouflage and adaptations.
Grade 6: What a Ddifference
Diversity of Living Things
(Fall and Spring)
Explore the forest for diversity. Discuss and investigate classification systems in the forest ecosystem. Students will learn about the different organisms found in a forest, meadow and river habitat and explore different ways to classify them.
Grade 7: We’re All in This Together
Interactions with Ecosystems
Explore the inter-relationships which exist between abiotic and biotic elements in the environment. While hiking through the trails, recognize and understand the interrelationships within an ecosystem and discuss and experience the influence Man has had on maintaining and destroying ecosystems in our habitats.
